This was supposed to be a pilot experiment in an event or pop-up format. When Dharath (Tot), an environmental manager for Bo.lan at the time, collected surpluses and byproducts and bar-hopped around Bangkok, he asked if any bartenders would be interested in using them. Kitibordee (Gov) said yes.

Due to the pandemic, the event never happened, but Kitibordee (Gov) continued to experiment. We properly started and opened Wasteland in mid-2020, as soon as the lockdown was lifted. As a tiny bar in front of Bo.lan, wasteland aligned with Bo.lan's ecosystem of strong sustainability practices, which had been in place for over a decade. During its year there, wasteland also ventured into various collaborations and adapted to the circumstances and regulations of the pandemic, leading to new product developments and connections with people and organizations within Thailand and beyond.

Since the closure of its physical space in mid-2021, Wasteland has continued to operate through various endeavors such as creating products, offering consultations, hosting educational sessions, and organizing pop-ups, to name a few. Working with both public and private sectors, locally and internationally, across various fields and industries.

The reopening of Wasteland marks a new era of resilience, innovation, and hospitality. Now in a new location and space, and with new team members aka wastelanders. Aims to become a hub for experiences, learning, and sharing. While continuing to work actively with people locally and globally on initiatives and projects focused on sustainable development and much more.
